New faculty member, Dr. Anthony Vasaturo, aspires to teach math in the best ways that he can. Dr. Vasaturo received his Ph.D in Pure Mathematics from the University of Toledo. His bachelors and masters were also over Pure Mathematics as well.

This semester, Trine's Humanities department kickstarted a new "Old Norse" class where students have been learning to speak the language. In a STEM-focused school, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The independent study is taught by Dr. Mayus, who specializes in Medieval Studies.

The Jannen School of Arts and Sciences welcomes Professor Kim Rentz to Trine University’s staff. Rentz is from Shawnee, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City. After living there, she decided to attend Kansas State University to get her bachelor’s degree in Biological and Agricultural engineering. While she was there, Rentz had a secondary major in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences. After attending four years at Kansas State University, Rentz attended the University of Iowa and got her master's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering.

The new Writing Center, now known as the Amy Salyer-Nicholls Writing Center, opened for the first time this semester on August 27. This new Writing Center also welcomes a new director, Dr. Christine Olding. Dr. Olding is a Humanities and Communications professor at Trine University, and has had experience with writing centers before and has a passion for teaching writing.

It’s that time of the year where Trine University’s Symposiums are starting back up. If you don’t know what the symposiums are, they are a series of talks that discuss the hot topics or current research that is being discussed in the humanities. It’s a multimedia presentation that has both a speaker and visuals to discuss the interesting word on the street that flows among the corridors and alley ways of the world of humanities.

Dr. Goddard’s Shakespeare & His Time’s class is going on a trip this week. The class will be visiting Hillsdale College to catch a live performance of The Merchant of Venice. The students have been studying various plays from the Shakespeare era this semester. There has, however, been something lacking from the experience. Dr. Goddard explains the importance of viewing a play, rather than just reading a script.
